MADA VAN GAANS
Collection Autumn/Winter 2008-2009

The Mada van Gaans Autumn/Winter 2008 collection is inspired by the illustrations of fables from ancient myths. Surrealistic fantasy figures of a crossing between human an animal, or unknown life forms such as water nymphs, unicorns and phoenix live in their own surrealistic world where willow trees and their branches and twigs have alienating silhouettes in the twilight. Their knots transforming into living faces in the black sky underneath the sparkling
stars.

Mada’s collection is youthful, ladylike and a divine mix between fantasy, luxury and comfort with feminine dresses in comfortable wool and playful vest/dresses made in sporty shiny materials and wool. Comfortable tops are combined with organic shaped skirts and high-tech leggings. Refined dresses in sparkling silk with eyes that are watching you. Returning items throughout the collection are natural elements such as the print of wood. Mada van Gaans graduated from the MA at the Fashion Institute Arnhem in 2004. During her studies she did internships at Bernard Wilhelm and Oscar Suleyman and worked on a freelance basis at a forecast agency. In these years she experienced different aspects of the
fashion world. Since 2004 she produces her own collections twice a year as well as working on commissions in collaborations with other companies, such as designing a mini collection for Lavazza as part of its international advertising campaign for 2005. She also collaborated with Longines luxurieus watches to create the Longines Belle Arti dressed by Mada van Gaans
collection, for which she designed the watchbands.

Mada has been exploring international markets with DFF’s Dutch Touch campaign and participated at the Arnhem Fashion Biennale. She was a finalist at the Mercedes-Benz Dutch Fashion Award 2007 and won the second price at the IAF Awards in Taipei in Taiwan. Mada’s clothes are available in several high end stores in the Netherlands as Azzuro Due and SPRMRKT
in Amsterdam, Wendela van Dijk in Rotterdam, L’Empresse in The Hague and Coming Soon in Arnhem.
